Turning spare change from home swapping into real change — for local communities and the planet.
Project Changemaker turns spare change from the money saved through home swapping into real change — by supporting local people, businesses, and organisations working to regenerate and improve their communities and the environment.
Every Swapsy membership helps fund Project Changemaker, with a portion of profits from membership fees going directly to grassroots initiatives. Each month, we shortlist three inspiring local Changemakers, and our members vote on which one receives the funding. It’s collective giving — powered by people who travel lighter.
Every time you arrange a swap, you’ll see an estimate of how much you’re saving on accommodation. You’ll then be invited to pass a little of that forward — by supporting a local Changemaker in the community you’re swapping with, at an amount you choose. It’s a simple way to give back — before you even pack your bags.
Note: Active support for approved Changemakers begins with our membership launch in mid 2025.
From tree planting and food rescue to cafés sourcing produce from just down the road, your support helps a range of Changemakers do good in the places they call home.
Helping people learn about local Aboriginal history, including how Bundjalung people cared for the land, and the devastating impact of settlement and displacement on Aboriginal people — past, present, and still unfolding today.
Regenerating Australia’s rainforests through large-scale tree plantings that restore biodiversity, protect endangered species, and rebuild ecosystems — one tree at a time, across degraded landscapes in northern New South Wales.
A 120-acre regenerative farm and restaurant using farming practices that reverse environmental degradation, rebuild soil health, and support ecosystems — while producing food that’s more flavourful, nutritious, and connected to the land.
Rescuing quality surplus food and turning it into over 600 fresh, home-cooked meals and food boxes every week. With the help of local volunteers, they make sure this food reaches people doing it tough across the Byron region.
A registered sanctuary and charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong care of farmed animals in need. Set on 130 peaceful acres near Byron Bay, it’s a safe haven where every animal is treated with love and respect.
Nominate a Changemaker.
Whether it’s a restaurant sourcing sustainably, a group rescuing food, or an organisation restoring nature — nominate them as a Changemaker and help us support the people creating real change.
For a limited time, experience home swapping with no strings attached before our membership launches.
